Our Story
Welcome to 60'LAB, where art and culture intersect to reconstruct the collective memory of Agadir. Born out of the aftermath of the 1960 earthquake, our mission is to revitalize the cultural landscape of our city through community-driven initiatives.
In the wake of the tragedy, international efforts focused solely on rebuilding Agadir's physical infrastructure, neglecting its rich cultural heritage. As a result, significant aspects of our cultural identity were left behind, with traditions fading and rituals ceasing.
Today, a staggering 84% of Agadir's citizens feel a disconnect from their city's memory, highlighting the urgency of our cause. Recognizing the vital importance of preserving our collective memory, we've embarked on a journey to bridge this gap.
In the absence of established protocols for reconstructing collective memory, we've pioneered a community-based approach. By complementing governmental efforts with grassroots initiatives, such as our Cultural Laboratory, we aim to heal the cultural rift within our city.
At 60'Lab, we bring together local residents and artists to conceptualize projects that celebrate Agadir's past and present. Through artistic residencies, events, and festivals, we strive to reignite the spirit of our community while adhering to disaster risk management principles outlined by UNESCO and the World Bank.
Join us in shaping the future of Agadir by preserving its vibrant cultural tapestry, one brushstroke at a time.
